The federal government has said that former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has the right to support his preferred presidential candidate ahead of the 2019 elections.
The Punch reports that the minister of information, Lai Mohammed, said this on Monday, December 10.

He said Obasanjo “has every right to support anyone he likes,” adding that such right “is constitutional.”
The minister, however, expressed optimism that President Muhammadu Buhari will defeat Atiku Abubakar saying Obasanjo’s candidate will be “roundly and comprehensively ” defeated.
Legit.ng had reported that ex-president Obasanjo shut down claims that he has decided not to campaign for any candidate for the 2019 presidential election in Nigeria saying he would be a fool to be neutral.
Premium Times reports that Obasanjo made the clarification in a statement he released on Sunday, December 9, through his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi.

He said only a fool would choose to be neutral when his or her country is being destroyed; and he is neither a fool nor an unwise.
