Buhari departs for Sokoto on condolence visit to late president Sahagari's family

- President Muhammadu Buhari has departed Abuja for Sokoto to pay a condolence visit late president Shehu Shagari

- The former president died on Friday, December 28, after a brief illness

- Buhari was represented by the SGF, Boss Mustapha, during Shagari's burial in Sokoto on Saturday, December 29

President Muhammadu Buhari has left Abuja for Sokoto on a condolence visit over the death of former president Shehu Shagari.

Premium Times reports that the president’s plane took off from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja some few minutes after 9 am on Sunday, December.

Legit.ng gathered that Shagari, Nigeria’s first elected civilian president from 1979 to 1983 died on Friday evening, December 28, at the National Hospital Abuja after a brief illness.

He was buried on Saturday afternoon, December 29, at his hometown, Shagari, in Sokoto state.

Buhari was represented at the funeral rites by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday, December 29, directed that that flags should fly at half-mast in military and para-military formations, as well as public buildings for three days, starting from Sunday, December 30, to honour the late president Shehu Shagari.

Legit.ng had reported that President Muhammadu Buhari expressed sadness over the news of the passing away of the first executive president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alhaji Shehu Shagari.

President Buhari’s condolence message was contained in a statement issued by his special adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, in Abuja on Friday, December 28.
