The remains of former President Shehu Shagari on Saturday, December 29, arrived Sa’ad Abubakar 111 international Airport Sokoto in a Federal Government aircraft with registration number 5N_FGZ at 12.55pm.
The body was received by the Governor of Sokoto state, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, former Governor Attahiru Bafarawa , Sokoto State Executive Council members and the family members of the late former president.

The Punch reports that Shagari was interred at exactly 3.30pm after the funeral prayers led by Professor Shehu Galadanchi, former Vice Chancellor, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto.
Legit.ng gathered that the burial was followed by a military parade by members of Nigeria Armed Forces.
Aged 93, former President Shagari, was flown to Abuja on Tuesday, December 25, after his health deteriorated, but he eventually gave up the ghost on Friday, December 28.
Among the dignitaries that attended the funeral prayers were federal government delegation, led by Boss Mustapha, Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), and governors of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states.
Others in attendance are former governor Attahiru Bafarawa, former Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, Waziri Sokoto, Professor Junaid Walk, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, former minister, Mukhtar Shagari, and several others.

Legit.ng had earlier reported that the news about Shagari's death was first broke by his grandson, Bello Shagari.
Bello confirmed that the second republic president, from 1979 to 1983, died at the National Hospital, Abuja, on Friday, December 28, at the age of 93 in a tweet.
“I regret announcing the death of my grandfather, H.E Alhaji Shehu Shagari, who died right now after brief illness at the National hospital, Abuja,” he tweeted.
