Breaking: Political party linked with Governor Amosun adopts Buhari as presidential candidate for 2019 (photos)

President Muhammadu Buhari was, on Monday, December 24, adopted by the national chairman of the Allied People's Movement (APM), Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, in Abuja as its preferred candidate for the 2019 general elections.

Dantalle adopted Buhari on behalf of the party when he visited the president at the State House accompanied by Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state.

The APM national chairman also delivered a letter to the president showing he had been endorsed by the party for the presidential election.

A terse statement by Femi Adesina, the spokesperson of Buhari, confirmed that the president was adopted by the party which is linked to Amosun.

The adoption comes days after Amosun's preferred candidate for the governorship of Ogun state, dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) with some others and defected to the APM.

Amosun, in his reaction to the defection, had said the decampees had his blessings as he would campaign for them, but support President Buhari in the APC ahead of 2019.

The governor, who is contesting for a Senate seat in Ogun, however, said he remained a member of the APC.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Governor Ibikunle Amosun recently vowed to work against Dapo Abiodun in the 2019 governorship poll.

Amosun, who is the party’s candidate for the Ogun central senatorial district, reportedly made the statement on Monday, December 3, when addressing his supporters in Abeokuta, the state capital, The Punch reports.

The outgoing governor however, stated that he would remain in the APC to contest the senatorial seat and ensure the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari.
