Big blow for Emery as Arsenal star sustains terrible injury and will play no part again this season

- Gunners star Rob Holding suffered cruciate ligament injury in midweek's 2-2 draw against Man United

- He will miss the rest of the ongoing European League season as confirmed by the club

- The defender was replaced by Stephan Lichtsteiner in the 36th minute of the encounter

Arsenal star Rob Holding has been ruled out of the rest of the 2018-19 Premier League season following the cruciate ligament injury he suffered in Wednesday's 2-2 draw against Manchester United.

The England international was replaced by Stephan Lichtsteiner in the 36th minute of their clash at Old Trafford in the mid-week fixture.

After the game, the Gunners posted that the defender returned to London during match which he could not finish and would be tested by the medics.

Having undergone diagnosis, it is now confirmed that Holding will watch his side play for the rest of this term from the stands.

The defender has made 16 appearances for the club in all competitions this term and has been a part of the north Londoners 20 match unbeaten run.

He joined the Emirates Stadium outfit from Bolton Wanderers in 2016 for a fee around £2.70 million and his current deal with the club expires in 2023.

He was part of the squad that won the English FA Cup in 2017 after beating Chelsea 2-1 at the Wembley Stadium.

Meanwhile, fifth place Arsenal welcome Hudderfield Town to the Emirates Stadium for this weekend's EPL clash as they hope to maintain their unbeaten status.

They salvaged a point at Old Trafford to ensure they stretch their unbeaten run to 20 matches in all competitions.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Manchester United came from behind twice to force Arsenal to a 2-2 draw in Wednesday's tough Premier League clash at Old Trafford.

The two teams displayed good football from the blast of the whistle till the final minute of this Premier League duel.

But it was the visitors that took the lead at Old Trafford when Shkodran Mustafi's powerful header was hard for Manchester United goalie David De Gea to save.
