You are Nigeria's enemy if you don't support restructuring - Yoruba youths

- The Yoruba Youth Forum has called on Nigerians to consider anyone opposed to the call for restructuring as an enemy of Nigeria and the Yoruba race

- The forum says restructuring the country will bring development to all the federating units

- According to the forum, what is paramount on the minds of all Nigerians, especially the youth, is the restructuring of the country

As the debate for Nigeria's restructuring lingers on, the Yoruba Youth Forum has said any political party that is opposed to the call for restructuring should be regarded as an enemy of Nigeria and the Yoruba race.

Punch reports that the forum made its position known in a statement on Tuesday, November 13, by its national chairman, Abiodun Bolarinwa.

Legit.ng gathers that the group urged Nigerians of Yoruba extraction to be unanimous in their choice ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

The forum said: “This is the time that all political parties would want to curry the support of the youth but we in the YYF, a youth organisation duly recognised by the prime traditional rulers in Yoruba land, would not want the youth in the southwest to blindly support political parties that will not serve their interest and deliver the dividends of democracy to the land.

“Any political party that fails to back the restructuring of the country should be regarded as an enemy of Nigeria and the Yoruba race. This is because what is paramount on the minds of all Nigerians, especially the youth, is the restructuring of the country because they believe this will bring development to all the federating units.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo replied ex-vice president Atiku Abubakar after the latter stated that Osinbajo got it wrong on the issue of restructuring.

The vice president responded to Atiku's statement on Tuesday, September 4, saying that the ex-vice president's argument on restructuring was unclear and mixed up with good governance and diversification of the economy.

Osinbajo said Atiku intended to score cheap political points by bringing up restructuring concept he was not conversant with.

He said: “I rejected the notion that geographical restructuring was a solution to our national problems. Geographical restructuring is either taking us back to regional governments or increasing the number of States that make up the Nigerian federation.

"As we all may recall, the 2014 national conference actually recommended the creation of 18 more states. And I argued that, with several states struggling or unable to pay salaries, any further tinkering with our geographical structure would not benefit us."
