A Glenwood woman received the shock of her life after she discovered an abandoned six-week-old baby at her doorstep.
On Thursday, November 8, Laverne van Schalkwyk discovered a package at her front door. However, to her surprise, she found a baby and a note.
The letter asked the person taking care of the baby to give him his tablets, as well as a heartbreaking note to "my son".
"To my son- I love you so much but I couldn't give you what you wanted. Love is all I can give you, but I can't give you safety," part of the letter read.

Taking to social media, Van Schalkwyk spoke about finding the baby boy and how the Glenwood community came together to make sure he had the best possible care.
She said: "Within seconds of finding him, the whole community was at my doorstep to help, calls were made, the police were quick to arrive(and very compassionate), breast milk was delivered and a lady in charge of social services just happened to be driving by."

Van Schalkwyk added she just wanted the mother of the child to know she left him at the right house.
She added the baby has since been taken into social service's care, where he "will be safe and cared for."
