Woman defrauds Kogi Rep member of over N15million

- 37-year-old lady, Amarachukwu Chineke, has been accused of defrauding a House of Representatives member

- The lady has been arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, in Lagos for the alleged crime

- She is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining under false pretence and stealing

A 37-year-old lady, Amarachukwu Chineke, has been arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for allegedly defrauding a member of the House of Representatives, Emmanuel Egwu.

Egwu, representing Idah Federal Constituency in Kogi state was said to have lost $49,800 (over N15million).

Chineke, whose residential address was not given, is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining under false pretence and stealing preferred against her by the police, Vanguiard reports.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Friday Mameh, told the court that the defendant and others who are still at large, committed the alleged offence on Wednesday, September 19, at Abraham Adesanya Street, Lekki Lagos.

According to him, Chineke obtained the money under the false pretence that she was in a position to exchange the said sum to its naira equivalent of N15,438,000.

He said the offence committed is contrary to and punishable under Sections 411, 314 (3) and 287 (5) (a), of the criminal laws of Lagos state, 2015.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against her.

Consequently, Chief Magistrate Folashade Botoku granted her bail, in the sum of N2million, with two sureties in like sum.

The magistrate said the sureties must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos state government and have their addresses verified.

The case was then adjourned till Monday, December 10, for trial.

Meanwhile, an aspirant of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the just concluded party primaries for the House of Representatives, Aisha Augie-Kuta, has called for adequate women and youth participation in Nigeria's politics.

Augie-Kuta, the senior special assistant on new media to the governor of Kebbi state, said the involvement of women and youth in politics would make government more accountable.

An award winning photographer, filmmaker and a media consultant turned politician, Augie-Kuta while addressing journalists in Abuja said the more Nigerians ask questions the more things will improve positively in the nation.
