We have made impact - Fashola reveals what Buhari did not promise Nigerians in 2015

- Babatunde Fashola declares that Muhammadu Buhari never promised to transform Nigeria in just three years of his government

- Fashola, a works, power and housing minister, warns Nigerians against returning the country to years of mismanagement

- He says while PDP could only generate 4,000 megawatts of power in 16 years, the APC has moved it to 7,000 megawatts in three years

The works, housing and power minister, Babatunde Fashola, on Tuesday, November 21, said in 2015, the government of President Muhammadu Buhari never promised to transform Nigeria in four years if given the mandate.

Fashola, who inaugurated the President Muhammmadu Buhari–Osinbajo 2019 campaign group comprising of about 5,000 political foot soldiers in Lagos state, argued that the administration did not promise to bring about change in different sectors of the country in four years.

The minister also denied the belief that President Buhari was slow in implementing policies and programmes as he said the government had made some achievements.

The Nigerian Tribune reports Fashola as saying the APC had remained focused from the beginning and made tremendous impacts in different sub-sectors of the Nigerian economy despite the challenges mismanagement of the country’s resources by previous administrations.

For him, the government of Buhari has laid the foundation for the economic growth of Nigeria.

“We did not promise to change Nigeria in four years. We have done very well in all the sectors, including education.

“For instance in 2015, the total number of roads completed before we came was 80 kilometres nationwide. In 2016, the total kilometre of roads completed was 277 kilometres. In 2017, it became 488 kilometres and in 2018 it is now 497 kilometres,” Fashola said warning that it would be retrogressive if Nigeria returned to the era where 80 kilometres roads were delivered in 16 years.

Concerning the power sector, Fashola said in 16 years, Nigeria hovered around 4,000 megawatts, but that in three years, the country has moved to 7,000 megawatts.

“Within three years, it had moved to 7,000 megawatts. We have added 3,000 megawatts meaning we were doing 1,000 per annum.

“Though they did not meet power generation at zero level, if you aggregate, it means they were doing 250 megawatts per annum. Do you want to go back to 250 megawatts per annum or 1000 mega watts per annum?” Fashola queried.

The director general of the Atiku Campaign Organisation, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, had earlier said Buhari has failed to deliver his contract of job creation to Nigerians.

The former Ogun state governor said this during his appearance on Sunday, November 18, in a popular political programme on Channels Television.
