Senator Ali Ndume representing Borno south senatorial district in the upper chamber has said the battle for the number one office in the 2019 general elections will be a contest between the looters and the patriotic people, especially the masses.
Ndume made the statement on Tuesday, November 20, at a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) forum in Abuja. According to him, President Muhammadu Buhari, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), represents the masses because he has taken the battle to those who enrich themselves through misuse of public funds.

The northeast senator said the masses appreciated Buhari’s boldness in tackling the canker worm, corruption which had been hindering national growth.
“Ninety per cent of the so called rich people in Nigeria are public dependent. They make their money from Nigerians so, they gather themselves now, they want to take power again.
“Nigerian masses will not agree to that move. One thing the Nigerian masses even like in this (APC) government is that they catch these people that stole their money.
“Buhari/Osinbajo is a very perfect team, you can’t fault them. The Vice-President (Prof. Yemi Osinbajo) is a complete gentleman, very transparent and honest, just like Mr. President (Buhari),” he said.
Ndume who is the chairman, Senate committee on establishment and public services, urged the masses to keep up their trust in APC government, saying the party was going to take the nation to the next level of development.
Ndume said the foundation had been laid by Buhari government for rapid development of the country, given the level of physical infrastructure developments going on around the country.
The senator said: “Standard rail gauge are now being delivered (Abuja-Kaduna) while many others are ongoing within three years of this administration unlike in the past when we had none of that.”
The senator said Buhari’s main opposition in the next election, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had been in government in the past, adding that the memory was still fresh.
“It was a delight to have Atiku, a former Vice-President emerging as the candidate of the major opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the next election.

“The masses can still remember his contribution to the present state of his geo-political zone and that will play major role in their voting pattern in 2019,” he said.
NAN reports that APC, PDP are among the 91 political parties that will participate in 2019 general elections into various offices at the federal and state levels.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that President Muhammadu Buhari kick-started his campaign re-election for a second term in office in Abuja.
Buhari launched a “campaign manual/next level document” at the State House conference centre on Sunday, November 18.
The occasion was slated for 5 pm at the Banquet Hall which was filled to capacity with supporters of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), top party officials and government delegates.
