Manchester United plotting to make another bid for important Atletico Madrid star

- The Red Devils are planning to lure Diego Godin to the Premier League in January having failed few months back

- Mourinho believes the Uruguay defender will strengthen the department since their struggles at the start of the season

- Godin's current deal with his Spanish league side runs out in the summer of 2019 but he's in talks with the club over the renewal of his deal

Manchester United are reportedly back in the race for Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin.

The Premier League giants tried signing the Uruguay star during the summer transfer window but the deal failed to pull through.

However, with the 32-year-old's deal set to expire at the end of this season, the Red Devils will try their luck again in January.

Jose Mourinho's men have been struggling since the start of this EPL campaign - occupying 8th position on the log with 20 points from 12 matches.

And the Portuguese tactician, who already lamented at the depleted defence he has to manage for the season will hope to succeed in his quest to land the defender this time.

The former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss isn't satisfied with the combination of Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof which has conceded at least a goal in virtually all the matches.

Godin and his agent earlier rejected a bid of £20 million United submitted few months back despite talks with Atletico he never actually signed a fresh contract.

Mourinho is also eyeing a loan move for out of favour Chelsea star Gary Cahill who is frustrated at a lack of first team football.

The Blues are prepared to sanction Cahill’s temporary exit with boss Maurizio Sarri unable to offer the 32 year-old enough game time to keep him happy.

The experienced defender has only made six appearances this season and played just 21 minutes in the Premier League — all of them coming in one run-out as a substitute.

Legit.ng recalls that Atletico Madrid defender Digo Godin shunned Manchester United's offer to remain with the Spanish League title contenders.

The 32-year-old Uruguay star became Jose Mourinho's top target on the transfer deadline day as the Portuguese tactician hopes to strengthen his squad for competition next season.

Reports in Spain according to Sky Sports claim that the experienced defender is currently negotiating new deal with the Europe League champions.
