- Two Speakers have emerged in Anambra state House of Assembly after the impeachment of Rita Maduagwu
- The different Speakers were appointed by two factional group among the House members
- Maduagwu was impeached over allegations of financial impropriety, gross misconduct and incompetence
Following the impeachment of the Anambra state House of Assembly Speaker, Rita Maduagwu, two Speakers have emerged.
Punch reports that the House was divided among itself as the two different groups produced its own Speaker.
It was gathered that the emergence of the two Speakers followed after 22 out of 30 members of the House had claimed they had impeached Maduagwu over allegations of financial impropriety, gross misconduct, incompetence and sundry allegations.
The motion for the impeachment of Maduagwu was moved by Ikem Uzozie, representing AguataII constituency. He was seconded by Onyebuchi Offor (Ekwusigo constituency).

However, three members of House who refused to joined exercise were suspended.
This led to the nomination of Uzozie as the Speaker by his group although the clerk of the House, Pius Udoh, allegedly sneaked out from the chamber, apparently to avoid swearing in Uzozie.
Speaking to journalists on the matter Udoh said the “purported impeachment did not meet the constitutional requirements”.
Also speaking, Maduagwu said her impeachment is “a bundle of illegality”.
“Nobody can impeach me because I have not committed any offence. They didn’t have any power known to any law to impeach me. They needed two-thirds of our members to impeach me or the governor. So, I’m still the speaker," Maduagwu said.
