The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and former vice president Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, on Friday, November 23, reacted to the death of 44 soldiers who were recently killed by Boko Haram insurgents at the Nigerian Army base in Borno state.
Atiku in a tweet from his official Twitter page called for the support and prayers of all Nigerians for the military in this war against ISWAP and Boko Haram.
Legit.ng previously reported that dozens of soldiers were killed and many others sustained gun wounds when Boko Haram insurgents invaded their base at Matele Kukawa local government area of Borno state on Sunday, November 18.

The incident occurred at remote village of Metele in Lake Chad Basin around 5:00pm. A security source said the insurgents subdued the soldiers and left with their ammunition.
Meanwhile the Nigerian Senate has ordered the committee on ethics to look into the affairs of the Senate and investigate the leadership of the Senate's committee on army over the alleged detachement of the Nigerian Army from the Senate.
The Senate made the decision after Senator Abdullahi Danbaba cited Order 14 and 15, informing the Upper chamber that since the constitution of the committee on Army, it has not been active due to weak leadership.
The motion was first moved by Senator Bala Na’allah who brought the issue of the massacre to the House during the plenary.

In a previous report by Legit.ng, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has awarded scholarships to five children of the victims of the recent attack on 157 Task Force Battalion in Metele, Borno.
Abubakar made the declaration in a statement personally signed by him on Wednesday, November 21, in Abuja.
The former vice president also called on those who desired to celebrate his birthday to donate their gifts and money to the widows and orphans of the fallen military heroes.
