- In a recent post the mother of one revealed that she will never let her child call anyone who isn't part of their family, uncle or aunty
In most Nigerian homes, respect is often reflected in their vocabulary, especially when speaking to an older person. This if often expressed in calling older people 'aunty and uncle' instead of just using their names and it considered regular practice in several areas of the country. Nollywood actress and philanthropist Tonto Dikeh has shared an interesting opinion about such practice.
In a recent post, the actress revealed that she will not let her son, King Andre address anyone as 'aunty or uncle' except they are family members and related as such. She stated that she grew up with this and found it a bit offensive that she had to call random people aunty and uncle even when they weren't related to her at all.
Her views appears strange to many Nigerians who believe that's the best way to show respect to an older person. Dikeh however pointed out that her son will be very polite and respectful towards his elders but will not use such names to identify anyone who isn't directly related to him.
