EFCC grills ex-Abia governor over alleged N27bn fraud

- The EFCC has grilled Senator Theodore Orji over an alleged fraud

- The anti-graft agency accused Orji of mismanaging the sum of N27billion

- The ex-governor was reportedly invited after series of petition written against him

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reportedly grilled the immediate former governor of Abia state, Senator Theodore Orji, over allegations that he grossly mismanaged about N27billion state fund.

The Punch reports that Orji was invited to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja after series of petition were written against him.

Among the allegation levelled against him in the petition was that Orji diverted billions of naira disbursed to Abia state by the Central Bank of Nigeria for Small and Medium Enterprise.

He was also accused of diverting money from the Ecological Fund account, and money from the Abia state Oil Producing Development Area Commission.

The acting spokesman for the EFCC, Tony Orilade, confirmed Orji's visit to the EFCC office in a text message.

Orilade said: “Yes. It is true that we have the former Abia governor with us.

“But I cannot say more than that. When it is time to press charges, we shall do that and the story will be in the media.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Senator Nkechi Nwaogu, who represented the Abia Central senatorial district in the upper legislative chamber between 2007 and 2014 under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said the people of her constituency want her back in 2019.

Nwaogu, who dumped the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC), said that her opponent, former governor Theodore Orji, who currently represents the district, has not performed well.
