- Northeast governors have endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term
- The governors met in Bauchi on Sunday, for a meeting where they arrived at the decision
- Four governors and two ex-governors attended the meeting
Governors of northeast region of Nigeria on Sunday, November 25, after a meeting in Bauchi state, have announced their endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari to run for a second term in office in the 2019 general elections.
The meeting, which was attended by four governor, 2 ex-governors, went on for 2 days and ended with all parties involved agreeing to support President Buhari.
Those in attendace at the meeting are: Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno, Governor Bindow Jibrila of Adamawa, Governor Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi, the national secretary of APC, Senate Leader Ahmed Lawal, former governors Isa Yuguda of Bauchi and Modu Sheriff of Borno among others.

Malam Mustapha Salihu who is the APC National Vice Chairman for the North East said: “I want to say that this gathering is mainly an endorsement meeting to show appreciation to Buhari’s administration for salvaging us from the shackles of insurgency, no single kilometre is now under Boko Haram.
“The meeting is also to reiterate our support come 2019 by giving him triple number of votes as against what was given to him in 2015.
“On the whole, the meeting is to map out strategies with the stakeholders to see how we will go about the forthcoming general elections to re-elect Buhari for a second term.
Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno who also spoke at the event, said: “We all know the sorry state of the country, we are the net beneficiaries of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in terms of appointment, securing lives and properties and projects.
“Because the Mambilla hydro power project in Gembu Taraba alone, is game changer in this part of the world.
“Therefore North East is Buhari’s territory, believe me the sub-region will solely back him in 2019 general elections."

Legit.ng earlier reported that former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, said that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, will not disappoint when he becomes president in 2019.
Obasanjo was reported to have made the statement on Sunday, November 25, when he and another ex-president, Goodluck Jonathan, in the company of some governors of PDP, visited the palace of Lamido of Adamawa during a trip to the state to attend the turbaning of Atiku as the 7th Waziri Adamawa.
