BREAKING: UPP to adopt Buhari as its presidential candidate

- The 2019 general elections will be fiercely contested among different political parties in Nigeria

- Different political parties have been making arrangements so as to ensure that they coast home to victory during the polls

- A political party identified as United Progressive Party has promised to endorse President Muhammadu Buhari as its candidate for the forthcoming elections

The United Progressive Party (UPP) has assured of adopting the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari, as its candidate for the 2019 polls on Tuesday, November 20.

This was disclosed by the chairman of the party, Chief Chekwas Okorie, after a closed-door meeting with President Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Punch reports.

Legit.ng gathers that Chief Okorie stated that Igbo leaders never met formally to endorse former vice president and presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

In a previous report by Legit.ng, a former special adviser on inter-parliamentary affairs, protocol and special duties to the Senate president Bukola Saraki, Alhaji Moshood Mustapha, has said that his decision to stay in the All Progressives Congress (APC) was informed by his belief in the ability of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Mustapha, who stated this in Ilorin, Kwara state, on Wednesday, September 26, explained that as the coordinator for Buhari/Osinbajo campaign organisation in the state in 2015, he was not ready to “dump the ship in the middle of the sea and look for a way to sail out”.

He said: “There are ways we can manage our mistakes. It is not about abandoning. If you say that your wife offends you, she will always offend you and you will also offend her. But you have to manage your mistakes, otherwise you will keep marrying everyday."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday, October 13, in Abuja, insisted that the All Progressive Congress (APC) deserved re-election in 2019, in view of the achievements of the party in Nigeria.

Buhari then advised religious leaders and traditional rulers to encourage their adherents and subjects to read every political party’s manifesto carefully and vote wisely in the 2019 general elections.
