Benzema strikes again as Real Madrid beat Celta Vigo in tough La Liga showdown

- Karim Benzema handed Real Madrid an early lead in the first half but lost three players to injury

- The Frenchman doubled his tally early in the second stanza adjudged to be an own goal as the Los Blancos continue their recent run of form

- Sergio Ramos and Dani Ceballos sealed victory for the visitors but Hugo Mallo and Brais Mendez netted consolation goals before Gustavo Cabral was sent off in the 87th minute

Real Madrid defeated Celta Vigo 4-1 on Sunday, November 11, in a tough La Liga clash at the Abanca-Balaídos.

The encounter saw Benzema net his third goal in two games to ensure the Los Blancos were on the the front foot going into the break.

Luka Modric's long ball found Benzema, who smartly turned before hitting the ball with his right foot past the goalkeeper from a tight angle to put Real Madrid in front.

In the second stanza five more goals were scored as Gustavo Cabral’s own goal in the 56 minute handed Real Madrid a 2-0 advantage.

The Frenchman was heavily involved leading to the goal. Skilfully, he found space in the box before executing the strike which deflected off the near post, then off Cabral to rest in the net.

On the 61st minute Hugo Mallo pulled one goal back for Celta but seven minutes from time, Sergio Ramos netted a penalty goal restored the Galaticos 2-goal lead.

And with three minute to end of the game, Dani Ceballos scored a cracker to further increase Real Madrid advantage to 4-1.

Gustavo Cabral also got his second booking and marching orders in the 87th minute as Celta played out the closing minutes with 10 men.

However, they had enough time to pull another goal back through Brais Mendez’s deflected goal, to ensure the game finished 4-2 in favour of the Los Blancos.

The performance sees Real Madrid maintain their sixth spot on the La Liga log. And four points behind league leaders Barcelona, but Brazil's Casemiro and Nacho were replaced with various degree of injuries.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously had reported that European champions Real Madrid cruised to a 5-0 victory over Viktoria Plzen in their Champions League meeting at Doosan Arena Plzen.

A brace from Karim Benzema and a goal each from Casemiro, Toni Kroos and Gareth Bale ensured interim manager Santiago Solari claim his third win in charge of the Galacticos.

The Spanish League giants opened scoring after just 20 minutes of play through Benzema, and barely two minutes after the opener, Brazil sensation Casemiro doubled his side's lead.
