Atiku’s acceptance in south-east, other zones makes Buhari, APC jittery - PDP

- The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the nationwide acceptance of its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has sent the APC into panic mode

- The PDP was reacting to the ruling party's dismissal of Atiku's endorsement by south-east leaders

- The PDP says Atiku's endorsement is a testament to Nigerians resolve to vote out President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the nationwide acceptance of its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has sent the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) into panic mode ahead of the 2019 general elections.

The PDP was reacting to the ruling party's dismissal of Atiku's endorsement by south-east leaders recently.

In a statement sent to Legit.ng, the spokesperson for the APC, Lanre Issa-Onilu, had said: “We in APC are confident that the Igbo won't be fooled by any group, by whatever name, to sell a thoroughly discredited party like the PDP to the very discerning Igbo people.”

In reaction, the national publicity secretary of the PDP in a statement sent to Legit.ng on Thursday, November 15, said the spontaneous and overwhelming acceptance accorded Atiku in the south-east, “is a manifestation of the trajectory that awaits him in all the geo-political zones across the country.”

He continued: “This acceptance demonstrates the settled resolve of Nigerians across board to vote out the incompetent President Muhammadu Buhari administration because of its manifest failures in governance.

“The PDP is aware of how this acceptance has sent jitters to the APC and President Buhari having belied claims that Mr President and the APC were making inroads into the south-east.

“With the assemblage of all leaders of note in every sector from all the five states of the south-east receiving our candidate, it is settled that President Buhari and the APC do not have any support in the zone.

“This acceptance could not have been less significant because the Buhari-led APC administration has no achievement, of any sort, in the entire zone.”

Meanwhile, the Igbo National Stakeholders Assembly (INSA), has picked holes in recent comments credited to two serving ministers, Babatunde Fashola and Dr Chris Ngige concerning the south west producing the president in 2023.

Reacting to the comments, the group said the Igbo producing the president in 2023 is non- negotiable.

In a statement jointly signed by Chief John Uche, president general, and Prince Erondu Uche, publicity secretary, the group declared that despite the large population of the Igbo in the country, they are marginalised in all sectors in the country.
