Governor of Borno state and chairman of southwest national peace and reconciliation committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kashim Shettima, has said the party is positioned to win 30 states in the 2019 general elections.

Daily Trust reports that he disclosed this on Wednesday, November 21, when the APC national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, inaugurated the committees headed by six governors in different geo-political zones to address the post-primary elections disputes in the party.

Legit.ng gathered that Shettima, who said ‘contest for power was not a tea party’, added that the maturity with which it was handled was very important.

He underscored the need for the party to put its house in order and promised that the committees would not disappoint the party.

“We are in control of 23 states. Such hiccups are inevitable in every political dispensation. We will try our best to reconcile aggrieved members.

“Collective interests should supersede our own interests. And our interest is to ensure that President Buhari wins. We want to ensure we have 30 states,” he added.

Earlier, Comrade Oshiomhole, said the national peace and reconciliation committees for each of the six geo-political zones were constituted to find ‘in-house solution’ to the challenges facing the party.

He said the committees were constituted to not only maintain peace but also to ensure harmony within the APC family, stressing that the party had gone through ‘crucial stage’ in the processes leading to the forthcoming general elections.

While urging them to appoint secretariat staff to reduce the cost burden from the party, he said “do everything to ensure peace within the ranks and files of the party.”

Oshiomhole, who said the committees were free to consult them on new issues arising to proffer solutions, added that the terms of reference given to them were amenable.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Borno state governor, Kashim Shettima, criticised former President Goodluck’s new book, My Transition Hours, barely a day after its public presentation in Abuja, describing it as “elementary” and containing “fiction.”

Governor Shettima alleged that the former president lied about the issue of the Chibok schoolgirls, who were abducted in 2014.
