- Ondo state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, says there is no war against the media by the state government

- Akeredolu's clarification is sequel to media report that the governor expelled some media houses from the Government House

- The governor says all media houses are free to cover the activities of the state government however and whenever they deem fit

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state has dismissed report that the state government has declared war against media by expelling some houses from the Government House.

According to Sahara Reporters, a source who craved anonymity said journalists from the affected media houses were asked to leave because their services were no longer needed.

Legit.ng notes that the source was quoted as saying: “The main issue that the government has with these affected media stations is their critical reportage on government activities in the state.

“And I am aware that they have once be warned, sanction and threatened with expulsion by the commissioner of information, Yemi Olowolabi, but it seems the media managers of these stations have an axe to grid with the state government and the Governor Akeredolu himself."

Akeredolu took to his official Twitter page on Monday, November 12, to make clarifications on the alleged war against the media.

He tweeted: "No war here. I’ve benefited from a vibrant media as NBA President, I won't change now as Governor. All media houses can cover our activities whenever & however they deem fit. We will nonetheless not be held to ransom over unpaid debt to media houses by the previous administration."

Another source said that the state government could not afford the “heavy fund” being paid to the media houses on quarterly basis, which was said to have been inherited from the previous administration.

He said: “Yes, I know they have been expunged from the list of media stations being housed in the Government Office and I am aware the decision is final unless the government renegotiates with their managers if they are ready to listen."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, of incompetence.

In a statement sent to journalists on Wednesday, October 24, by his senior special adviser on special duties and strategy, Doyin Odebowale, Akeredolu said APC primaries exposed the incompetence of Oshiomhole.
