A former attorney general of the federation and minister of justice, Mohammed Adoke, has said he and three other former top government officials ensured that ex-president Goodluck Jonathan conceded defeat in the 2015 presidential election.

Adoke, who described himself and the three others as heroes of Jonathan's concession of defeat, said the former president was pressurised against conceding defeat by those he described as hawks within the administration, Punch reports.

Legit.ng gathers that Adoke said he, former minister of finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; former minister of aviation, Osita Chidoka; and former senior special assistant on domestic affairs, Waripamowei Dudafa, ensured that Jonathan called President Muhammadu Buhari to concede defeat.

Adoke who is currently out of the country made the clarification in a text message he sent to Punch.

According to Adoke, the issue would be addressed adequately in his soon-to-be released book, titled The Burden of Service.

He said: “My forthcoming book will address the issue most comprehensively. As a patriot, I could not have advised the president not to concede defeat.

“Okonjo-Iweala, Chidoka, myself and Dudafa are the real heroes of that historic concession.

“We ensured that despite pressures from the hawks within the administration, the president conceded defeat by calling President Buhari as at the time he did.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, November 20, in Abuja hailed his predecessor, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, for voluntarily conceding defeat in the 2015 presidential election, describing him as a true democrat.

Buhari poured the encomium at the launching of a book titled “My Transition Hours” by Jonathan amidst hundreds of guests from outside and across the country.

Represented by the secretary to the government of the federation, Boss Mustapha, the president said Jonathan’s act of courage had made him a patriotic leader and earned popularity among Africans and other leaders.
