Northern governor confirms strong pressure to leave APC and join PDP

- Governor Yari says he and his supporters are unhappy with the refusal of the APC's national leadership to accept results of the primaries held in the state

- Yari says he is now under immense pressure to leave the APC

- The governor however says he would not leave the APC but stay in the party to fight injustice

Zamfara state governor Abdulaziz Yari has revealed that he is under strong pressure to leave the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) with his supporters.

Vanguard reports that Yari, who is the chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum, made the statement on Friday even as he met President Buhari same day to hand over the results of the state primaries he held.

According to reports, Yari was unwilling to talk to State House correspondents after meeting Buhari but later said that his supporters were unhappy aggrieved over the refusal of the party’s leadership to acknowledge that primaries were conducted last week in the state.

The Governor however said that despite the pressure from his people to dump the APC, he would remain in the party to fight against any injustice.

Governor Yari also denied any alleged romance with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

He said: “I don’t know whether that is a joke or otherwise.

“But for me, if you check my history since 1998, APP, and 2002 when Buhari joined ANPP, and 2015 APC, no time that I shifted from one party to another. That is not in my culture. So, the issue of leaving the party is not true.

“But some other people are sending rumour through the social media. I have seen my picture with the PDP and other parties. Yes, I cannot deny pressure from the people that we should leave APC but what I told them is that what we are looking for is just justice.

“We conducted electon and we want to see what the result is going to look. But I think for any body to come under the national secretariat and say he is going to nominate a candidate, I think, it is a very huge joke.”

Recall NAIJ.com reported that President Buhari on Friday, October 12 met behind closed door with Governor Yari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Yari, who was visiting the presidential villa for the second time since the conduct of the controversial All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries in Zamfara, was accompanied by Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state.

We reported that Yari would use the opportunity of the meeting to update President Buhari on the political happenings in Zamfara before, during and after the `failed’ APC primaries in the state.
