Atiku: Obasanjo dares APC over US entry ban allegation

- Obasanjo says he is not ready to respond to APC's allegations

- He dares the party to provide evidence of its claims before he responds

- The former president chides the party to face governance and leave unproven accusations

Former president Olusegun Obasanjo has denied allegations by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) that he was reportedly working to help PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar lift his US entry ban.

Premium Times reports that Obasanjo’s spokesman Kehinde Akinyemi said the former Nigerian ruler was not interested in joining words with the APC.

He said: “Baba cannot be responding to frivolous allegations by a vicious political party. Let them bring any shred of evidence to back their false claim.

“It is unfortunate that they are trying to distract the attention of Nigerians in the lead up to a general election rather than focus on campaigning on serious issues to lift the country out of its current state.”

NAIJ.com reported that the ruling APC alleged former president Obasanjo made moves to secure entry visa to the United States for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.

A statement signed by Yekini Nabena, APC acting national publicity secretary and made available to NAIJ.com, the ruling party said Obasanjo is lobbying US authorities to withdraw the ban reportedly placed on Atiku after a $500,000 bribery scandal in 2005 that involved Atiku's fourth wife, Jennifer and former United States Congressman, William Jefferson.

The party further noted in the statement that Obasanjo’s intervention in Atiku’s ban from the United States of America is evidence of his self-serving interest in national affairs.
