Artist Kehinde Wiley honoured by Harvard University for painting official portrait of Obama (photos)

- Prestigious university, Harvard, has honoured Nigerian-American artiste Kehinde Wiley

- He was awarded with the W.E.B. Du Bois medal

- Kehinde’s painting of the former President of the United States; Barrack Obama earned him the recognition

- He was awarded alongside seven other honorees

In ones’ chosen career, it is important to be outstanding so as to get the recognition of the world.

Nigerian-American artiste, Kehinde Wiley, was selected by former president of the United States, Barrack Obama, in October 2017, to paint his official portrait.

The painting debuted at the Smithsonian Institute’s National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. in February 2018.

Two weeks after the debut of the painting, Kehinde earned a spot as one of Time's Most Influential People of 2018.

On October 11, 2018, Kehinde was awarded with the W.E.B Du Bois medal for his work by Harvard University.

Seven other personalities were also honoured for their outstanding contributions in their various fields.

The other honourees include: comedian and actor Dave Chappelle, philanthropist Kenneth I. Chenault, art collector and philanthropist Pamela Joyner, athlete and activist Colin Kaepernick, to name a few.

Other personalities to have received the W.E.B Du Bois medal in the past include author Chinua Achebe, poet Maya Angelou and boxer Muhammad Ali.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported that a NYSC member erected the statue of Governor Wike of Rivers state.

The prestigious statue is said to be located very close to the market place at Eleme local government area of the state.

The youth corps member who is identified as Timinipre Isaac Indiamaowei, has state code number: RV/17B/2605. He secured the cooperation of students in the community to get his dream sculptural piece of the number one citizen of the state for his community development service (CDS).
