2019: House of Reps candidate thanks APC, promises quality leadership if elected

- Honourable Chidi Oji has emerged the candidate of the APC in Orumba north and south local governments

- Oji is now the APC's House of Representative's flag-bearer for the 2019 election

- He thanked the party, President Muhammadu Buhari and Senator Andy Uba for the opportunity

Honourable Chidi Oji has thanked the good people of Orumba north and south local governments for electing him as the All Progressive Congress (APC) House of Representative's flag-bearer for the 2019 elections.

Oji, an engineer, polled a total of 5,870 votes to defeat Chidi Ogbaji who polled 737 votes, Barrister Uchenna Okonkwo Okom came third with 517 votes and Engineer Constance Iloh came fourth with 321 votes.

While speaking to journalists in his country home this weekend, Oji also thanked Senator Andy Uba, President Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership of the APC for the mandate given to him to represent the people of his constituent.

His words: “I want to thank God and the good people of Orumba North/South for electing me as the candidate of our great party in the 2019 House of Representatives election.

“The show of love, solidarity and support I received in the build-up to the primaries is a reflection of the fact that the people are yearning for a leader who has the capacity to listen to their plight and offer them quality leadership and representation in areas of life.

“I also would use this medium to thank my leader, Distinguished Senator Andy Uba for being a role model and a reference point in Anambra politics. Permit me to also express my gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC leadership for providing a level playing ground during the primaries.

“As we prepare for the main elections in 2019, I wish to call on my fellow contenders and all Ndi Anambra to come out en mass and vote massively for the All Progressive Congress (APC) at all levels in 2019 so as to consolidate on the gains recorded so far.”

Meanwhile, election observer group, YIAGA Africa Watching The Vote (WTV) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to make public its report on the monitoring of political parties’ primaries held recently in preparations for the 2019 general elections.

The group made the demand on Thursday, October 11, in Abuja, during a press briefing on the conduct of political party primaries for the 2019 general elections.

Speaking at the briefing, Ezenwa Nwagwu, co-chair, WTV working group, and Cynthia Mbamalu, project director, YIAGA Africa WTV, raised issues around exclusion of youth and women, high cost of nomination forms, vote buying and selling, access and transparency. open flouting of party guidelines, INEC guidelines as well as the Electoral Act.
