We will support Atiku in 2019 - Afenifere

- Leader of Afenifere, Ayo Adebanjo, said the group will support presidential aspirant, Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 general election

- Adebanjo said the group has decided to support Atiku because of his campaign for restructuring

The Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere's leader, Ayo Adebanjo, on Sunday, September 2, said the group will support the presidential ambition of Atiku Abubakar in 2019 because of his campaign for Nigeria to be restructured.

The group announced its support for Atiku on Sunday after hosting him in an event in Lagos. Adbanjo, who spoke for the group said Atiku's call for restructuring seems to be the only genuine one among the aspirants, Premium Times reports.

He said: “You (Abubakar) have been writing about restructuring over a decade ago. You gave me your commitment to restructure Nigeria within six months in one of our meetings several years ago.

“When people talk about good governance and promise good road, agricultural development and all that, we just laugh. There must be a country first before any development. Nigeria can not have peace and stability without restructuring.

“We know that there is no greater champion of restructuring from the North than Atiku."

Atiku, while responding to Adebanjo's speech at the event said his commitment to restructuring is absolute.

He said: “In all my political career, I have not seen Nigeria in a state of danger that may affect its existence as a country as at today. This is because – just like a house- if you get a faulty foundation that building is not likely to last. This is where we find ourselves."
