Famous Islamic scholar Sheikh Babantune reportedly dies in Kaduna

- The chairman of the council of Imams and Ulama, Kaduna state, announce the death of Sheikh Abubakar Usman Babantune

- The federal government again dismiss rumour that President Muhammadu Buhari plans to Islamise the country

The chairman of the council of Imams and Ulama, Kaduna state, Sheikh Abubakar Usman Babantune, has reportedly died.

Daily Trust reports that the famous Islamic scholar died at the age of 74 on Monday, September 10, around 3pm at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Shika.

Sheikh Babantune reportedly survived by two wives and 21 children.

The secretary of the council, Yusuf Yakubu Arrigasiyyu, said the sheikh was buried after a funeral prayer in lowcost, Zaria.

Meanwhile, the secretary to the government of the federation, Boss Mustapha, has dismissed the allegation that President Muhammadu Buhari has plans to Islamise Nigeria.

The SGF said the allegation is being sold by people seeking to lure Nigeria into a religious war, and insisted no such plot exists in the Buhari's administration.

He made this statement while delivering a speech at the two-day peace summit organised by the Christian Association of Nigeria (Northern Region).
