A Catholic church, St Paul Catholic Church, located in Adagbrasa, Okpe local government area of Delta state, has collapsed during morning mass on Sunday, September 2.
The Cable reports that the church collapse left one person dead while many worshipers were said to have sustained injuries.
NAIJ.com gathers that the incident was confirmed by the chief press secretary to the state government, who released a statement on behalf of the state governor, Ifeanyi Okowa.

The statement read: “On behalf of the government and people of Delta state, I commiserate with the family of the deceased and those injured, the speaker of the Delta state House of Assembly, chairman of Okpe local government council, Chief Julius Scott, the Orodje of Okpe, HRM, Orhue 1, Major General Felix Mujakperuo (retd) and the entire Ugolo community in Okpe Kingdom over the unfortunate incidence.
“It is our prayer that the soul of the deceased will rest in peace, and that the injured will experience quick recovery.
“Our thoughts and prayers will continue to be with the people of Ugolo in Okpe Kingdom over this tragedy.”
Senate president, Bukola Saraki, condoled with Governor Okowa and the people of Delta state over the church collapse.
He tweeted: "My prayers are with the worshipers, affected families, Governor Okowa and the people of Delta State on this morning’s collapse of St. Paul Catholic Church in Okpe LGA. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide assistance to see that survivors are rescued and treated."

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the collapse of a church in Uyo left Nigerians in a sober mood. The church was said to be filled to its capacity following the consecration of its pastor as a Bishop when the incident happened.
The medical director of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Etete Peters, said while doctors battled to get blood for the injured, the mortuaries in the city of Uyo were overflowing from the tragedy.
