2019: Crisis deepens in APC as stakeholders kick against choice of primaries

- Various stakeholders in state APC chapters have kicked against the mode of primaries adopted to select gubernatorial candidates

- In Imo state, top party chieftains have disagreed with Governor Rochas Okorocha over the mode of primaries adopted

- The crisis also extends to Ondo, where a group has insisted that the state will adopt the direct primaries option instead of the indirect method

There are indications that many state chapters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are being torn apart, over the scramble for governorship tickets.

According to Punch, the disagreements over direct and indirect primaries in many states was hinged on the struggle for the governorship tickets, Punch reports.

NAIJ.com gathers that the ruling party is still battling with crises relating to its governorship tickets in various states including Imo, Kaduna and Ondo.

In Imo state, the impeached deputy governor, Eze Madumere; two senators - Hope Uzodinma and Benjamin Uwajumogu; a member of the House of Representatives, Goodluck Opiah; five members of the state House of Assembly and others have disagreed with Governor Rochas Okorocha over the mode of primaries adopted for the choice of the party’s governorship candidate.

In Ogun state, many party members have reportedly rejected the consensus candidate, Adekunle Akinlade.

Also, the Kaduna State APC Stakeholders Aspirants’ Forum has rejected the adoption of the indirect mode of election by the state chapter of the party for the choice of its governorship and other candidates for elective offices in the state.

The crisis also extends to Ondo, where a group has insisted that the state will adopt the direct primaries option instead of the indirect method.

In a related development, NAIJ.com previously reported that the train of those rejecting the direct primary option proposed by the National Working Committee of the APC was joined by delegates who emerged through the congresses of the party at the ward and local government levels.

The delegates reportedly joined their state party executives and governors to reject the direct primary option. They vowed to work against the interest of the governors if they embraced the direct primary option.
