Renowned Nigeria's, constitutional lawyer and author, Ben Nwabueze has said that the people from the southeast region are in need of restructuring the country not presidency.

Nwabueze called for peace between Ohanaeze Ndigbo and leaders of other Igbo groups in the region.

Speaking in his home in Atani, Ogbaru local government area of Enugu state, Nwabueze said all Igbo groups need to work together to forge a common front for the Igbo nation.

Vanguard reports that the meeting was attended by the president general of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Nnia Nwodo, emeritus dean of Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Reverend Maxwell Anikwenwa and Aloy Ejimakor, counsel to IPOB who represented the organization.

Nwabueze during the meeting emphasized the need for unity.

He said "We will not be united if followers are disenchanted with the leadership.”

The author said that Ohaneze Ndigbo and other leaders of the zone resolved to hold another meeting with southeast governors to pressure for restructuring.

He said: “There is trouble in Nigeria."

"We do not know what will happen in future because we are not prophets , but we can predict and we know there is problem. We love Nigeria, but the leaders of the nation are not doing the right thing. We are not in control of anything in Nigeria.

It is for this reason that we need to come together and be united. We have no control of anything in Nigeria and if we lose control of ourselves, we are finished and we will not let it happen while we are still alive," Professor Nwabueze said.

He said the essence of the meeting was to make everyone understand the need for peace to reign among the people.

“The primary need of Ndigbo now is restructuring not Igbo presidency. We want a restructured Nigeria because that is the only way we get what we want, and every zone would be satisfied. If Nigeria is restructured, that will go a long way to satisfy our demands.

“We don’t want Igbo presidency. As the country is today we cannot get anything until Nigeria is restructured. We can begin to talk about Igbo presidency only when Nigeria is restructured,” Nwabueze added.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that a pro-Buhari group, Ndigbo for PMB 2019, has urged the southeast zone to support President Buhari.

The group urged indigenes of the southeast region to avoid making political mistakes, which will hurt the interest of Ndigbo in 2019.

The national coordinator of the group, Prince Paul Ikonne, said the best chances of Igbo man to govern Nigeria would be in 2023 when Buhari completes his second term in office.
