- The group says attempts by the FAAC to indict top managers of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is an act of sabotage

- FAAC, under the aegis of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), has been having a running battle with the NNPC

The Forum Of Civil Society Organisations has berated the Federal Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC), under the aegis of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) for its constant bickering with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

In a statement sent to NAIJ.com on Monday, August 6, by the leader of the forum, Comrade Friday Maduka, the group accused the NGF of launching a campaign of calumny against top NNPC managers.

Comrade Maduka said there are attempts by the FAAC, under the aegis of the NGF to steer a campaign of slurs, innuendoes and gross distortions against the Group Managing Director (GMD) of the NNPC, Engr Baru Maikanti and the Group General Manager Crude Oil Marketing Division, Mele Kyari.

He stated that the duo, through bureaucratic sleight of hand and best governance practices, “have been steering the ship of the NNPC to its manifest destiny, oblivious of the activities of the fifth column within and the fiery darts of extraneous enemies from without, who are bent on sabotaging their progressive vision and mission for the corporation in tandem with other institutions and processes of government.”

He continued: “The traducers and detractors of Engr Baru Maikanti, for purely selfish and unscientific reasons have been advancing grossly unsubstantiated positions in respect of daily consumption of petrol, which according to NNPC sources reached a peak of 70 million litres per day during the festive period of November and December 2017.

“It is intriguing and fascinating that governors who are seized of the facts in respect of petrol importation, could turn around for the purposes of political expediency to tweak the facts and attempt to invert the truth.

“The NNPC under the enlightened stewardship of Engr Baru Maikanti is wrongly accused of and suspected to be duping the federation with deceitful claims as subsidy on imported fuel.

“The governors upped the ante when they called for the Department of Petroleum Resources report when they mischievously claimed that they couldn’t understand how the consumption of petrol could jump from an average of 30 million litres per day three years ago to an average of about 65 million litres per day under a change administration.

“The aforementioned scenario detract from all the laws of mathematics and logic and is laughable as it is unscientific in untrammeled fashion.

“Driven by hyena-appetite and a glaring lack of civility and soul, the governors mostly from the South-south geopolitical zone, who cannot justify the humongous sums of monies allocated to them by the day, have decided to seriously task the fragility of the Nigerian enterprise by engaging in this macabre death dance which essentially insults the intelligence of all genuinely motivated Nigerian patriots in tandem with the visionary God-sent President Muhammadu Buhari administration, which is swimming against formidable odds in order to take Nigeria into the light.”

The Forum stated that after its painstaking investigations, it has decided to give the Baru-led NNPC a clean bill of health, “informed as it were by the indisputable and incontrovertible truth that best governance practices , best auditing and best administrative practices are the operating principle under his distinguished leadership.”

The group also hailed Mr. Mele Kyari, for decisively eliminated crude oil racketeering syndicate by quack marketers and fraudsters, who hitherto scanned the gullible and unsuspecting members of the public.

This edifying scenario was attained through Mallam Mele Kyari’s astute stewardship in tandem with the principles of subsidiarity, subordination, unwavering fidelity to civil service rules and regulations and strict adherence to financial instructions.

Over and above all is Mallam Mele Kyari’s composite deployment of the new media in operations of the marketing division which is verily compartmentalized as to yield space to adaptive users of the myriad digital technologies, given their dexterity capacity and capability to navigate the beaten and unbeaten paths in the digital space.

The group said the NNPC is working assiduously in order to make all Nigerians proud with an eye to decisively resolving the inherent lingering contradictions which afflicts petroleum oil management.

They also warned against attempts to politicize NNPC operations, adding that they are ready to interrogate “elements who want to sink Nigeria.”
