- APC spokesman, Yekini Nabena, reacted to the defection of Saraki, Tambuwal and others
- He said most of the defectors are feather-weight politicians
- Nabena added that Saraki’s popularity is limited to Kwara, thus his defection cannot affect Buhari’s re-election
The newly-appointed acting national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Yekini Nabena, has reacted to the defection of the Senate president, Bukola Saraki, Sokoto state Governor Aminu Tambuwal and others from the party.
Nabena said the defections will not affect the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019. He claimed that the politicians in question lacked the political sagacity to affect the goodwill of the president in terms of grassroots support.
In a chat with some journalists in Abuja, Nabena said most of those defecting to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were feather-weight, Vanguard reports.

He said: “I can tell you authoritatively that the defections will not affect the President’s re-election. It is public knowledge that Saraki’s popularity is limited to Kwara. He does not have any power to determine what happens in Kogi or other North Central states where the president still enjoys substantial support. “Please, note that Saraki’s popularity is limited to Kwara alone.”
NAIJ.com previously reported that the chief whip of Lagos state House of Assembly, Rotimi Abiru, said that majority of the people who defected from the APC have no political influence in their respective constituencies.
The lawmaker said that the deluge of defections which characterised the nation's political space would not jeopardize the re-election of President Buhari during the 2019 general elections.
