Just in: Kaduna Islamic preacher, 2 sons regain freedom as police swing into action

- Police have rescued an Islamic preacher abducted in Kaduna state

- The preacher was rescued alongside his two sons who were all abducted while working in their farm in Maguzawa village in Igabi local government area in Kaduna state

- According to the police, two of the kidnap suspects were also arrested

The Police in Kaduna state have confirmed that Malam Ahmad Garko, known as Al-Garkawy, an Islamic preacher in Kaduna and his two sons have regained freedom at about 6.30 pm on Sunday, August 5.

The Command’s public relations officers, DSP Mukhtar Aliyu disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an interview in Kaduna state.

Aliyu said two suspects were arrested in connection with the cleric's abduction, saying the cleric was released due to the pressure mounted by the security operatives.

“The two suspects are under investigation and the other suspects are under our trail.

“No ransom was paid as far as I know, he was released unhurt and he has reunited with his family.”

NAN recalled that the Islamic preacher was abducted on Thursday, August 2 while working in his farm in Maguzawa village in Igabi local government area in Kaduna state.

NAN report that the police confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday, August 3.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the commissioner of police in Kogi state, Ali Janga, has paraded two serving officers of the force as well as one personnel of the Nigerian Navy for alleged kidnapping and armed robbery.

The suspects were among others paraded by Janga, who gave the names of the police officers as Corporals Isiaka Suleman and Ibrahim James.

While, the naval personnel was identified as Bature Habila, the commissioner said the policemen had been dismissed and would be charged to court with the fourteen other suspects after investigation is concluded.
