Drama as pastors refuse to officiate burial of 82-year-old grandmother who was a kidnapper

- Pastors in Kenya have refused to officiate burial of a known kidnapper

- The 82-year-old kidnapper was said to be a member of the local Anglican Church of Kenya

- She was shot dead after heavily armed police stormed her home

There was drama during the burial of 82-year-old grandmother gangster and her 26-year-old nephew on Friday, July 27, in Irewa village, Kiharu, Muranga County when pastors refused to preside over the ceremony.

Wangari Muturi Karanja and Sammy Mwangi Kang’ethe together with another man from Njumbi village in Mathioya constituency were shot dead after heavily armed police stormed the granny’s home.

The grandmother was a member of the local Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK), while her nephew was a Catholic.

Tuko.co.ke reports that the clergy who officiated the two burial ceremonies came from Kayole in Nairobi and in Naivasha.

There was a heavy police presence of uniformed police officers and others in plain clothes who maintained surveillance during the burial, with hope that accomplices in crime of the deceased could attend their final farewell.

Locals called on the police to beef up security in the village as insecurity levels were on the rise.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that twenty-three Nigerian nationals had on Friday, July 13, charged for living in Kenya illegally.

According to the police commissioner in charge of staff operations in Nairobi, the Kenyan capital, James Thathi, they were arrested on Thursday, July 12, at a house where all of them were staying.
