Colombian footballer assassinated while partying with teammates in possible "crime of passion"

- Alejandro Penaranda shot dead during a party with teammate

- Izequierdo got injured from gunshot wounds but rushed to the hosipital

- The police say from their investigation it was a crime of passion

Colombian footballer Alejandro Penaranda was shot to death as he partied with his team-mates, The Sun, quoting Marca.

The 24-year-old's teammate Heissen Izquierdo was also injured in the attack and rushed to hospital on Friday, June, 1.

According to Spainish media outlet Marca, a lone gunman was the author of the attack against the footballers.

The players was said to have reportedly gathered at Cristian Borja's house for a party when the unfortunate incident happened.

General of the Metropolitan Police Hugo Casos said: "The facts were presented in the early hours of this Friday around 12:40am.

"There were several football players at a party, until a man came asking for a woman and seconds later he jumped the fence of the front yard and began shooting.

"We are working with the General Police of the National, since it is a challenge for us to know the motives behind this assassination attempt."

Borja escaped unharmed with his mother as the duo witnessed the tragic incident as it occurred.

It is understood that the Colombian was on vacation in his native land after playing in the final against Santos in Mexico and Izquierdo is now reportedly recovering in the Valle University Hospital.

The officer added: "According to the first investigations, the attack was directed against Alejandro and against Heissen.

"Although the first hypothesis we have is that a woman who should be at the party and that's why we think it would a passionate crime."

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had earlier reported that former Aberdeen midfielder collapsed and died at the age of 54.
