Busted! 43-year-old Nigerian man caught 5 months after purportedly scamming a Vietnamese lady of N128.3m

- A Nigerian man identified as Remigius Duru Okonkwo appeared before a court in Cambodia for defrauding a Vietnamese lady of N128.3 million

- The victim identified as Darg Mai Nga met him on social media and fell for his trick of investing into a brick factory business

- Remigius was picked up by the police when he attempted to defraud Darg a second time for N54 million

They say everyday for the thief and one day for the owner. It appears nemesis has caught up with Remigius Duru Okonkwo, a Nigerian man who allegedly defrauded a Vietnamese lady of N128.3 million.

According to the victim identified as Darg Mai Nga, she met Remigius via social media in January and quickly formed a friendship that led him to visit her in Hanoi on January 10. When they met, an ambitious Duru convinced an unsuspecting Darg to invest in a brick factory business in Cambodia.

To gain her complete trust, Okonkwo took her to Cambodia to show her the brick factory which he claimed belonged to his friend. Excited about making solid steps towards financial success, Mai Nga decided to invest N128.3 million into the business.

To her surprise, Duru became unreachable after she transferred the money and several calls made to his phone returned void with no response.

On June 15, greed led the suspect to his end when he contacted the victim again, claiming the factory was near completion and she needed to invest another N54 million. Nga immediately contacted the police and led them to where Duru had planned to meet her again to collect the money.

The suspect was then taken to Phnom Penh court in Cambodia on June 17, where he is to receive the full penalization for his actions.

Meanwhile, just recently, two oil marketers got eight years jail term each over alleged N789.6 million fraud.
