Muslims in Kwara jubilate as governor approves N63.5m for Ramadan feeding

- Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe has approved the sum of N63.5 million to be used to feed the less privileged during Ramadan

- The free feeding would be in 42 centers across the state’s 17 local government areas

- The governor also approved 1,260 bags of rice and 630 jerry cans of cooking oil to be used in the various feeding centers

The sum of N63.5 million has been approved by the governor of Yobe state, Ibrahim Gaidam, for providing Ramadan feeding for the less privileged, Daily Trust reports.

The development was made public in a statement released by the governor’s director general of press affairs, Abdullahi Bego.

NAIJ.com gathers that the money would also cover the conduct of Tafsir during the Ramadan months.

Bego disclosed that the free feeding would be in 42 centers across the state’s 17 local government areas.

Breaking down how the money would be spent, Bego said N48.5 million will be used to purchase rams and cooking condiments for the 42 feeding centers while N15 million will we used to pay allowances to Muslim preachers providing guidance to the Islamic faithful during this Ramadan season.

He explained: "His Excellency, the governor, had also approved 1, 260 bags of rice and 630 jerry cans of cooking oil to be used in the 42 designated feeding centers during Ramadan.”

Recall that NAIJ.com previously reported that the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) on Friday, May 4, said the crescent for this year's Islamic lunar month of fasting, Ramadan, will be visible on Wednesday, May 16.

A statement from the agency said: "NASRDA has successfully calculated and predicted that the first appearance of the first astronomical Lunar crescent for Ramadan will be sighted on Wednesday 16th May".
