Chelsea set to be punished following misconduct in goaless draw against Huddersfield

- The FA set to punish Chelsea for misconduct in the match with Huddersfield

- The Blues surrounded the referee at half time after the whistle was blown

- Chelsea need a miracle to finish in the Premier League top in their last game

Chelsea have been charged by the English FA after players and coaches surrounded the referee during their 1-1 draw with Huddersfield at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues were about to take a corner kick as referee Lee Mason blew the half-time whistle which angered the players and officials.

A statement from the FA read: "Chelsea have been charged with failing to ensure their players and/or officials conducted themselves in an orderly fashion.

"The incident occurred at half-time of yesterday's game against Huddersfield Town. Chelsea have until 6pm on Tuesday (15 May 2018) to respond to the charge."

Antonio Conte's side were desperate for a win in the penultimate fixture which could have maintained the pressure on Tottenham and Liverpool in the race for the top four.

However, David Wagner's side held Chelsea to a 1-1 draw putting more dent in their chances of qualifying for next season's Champions League but securing their top flight action for next season.

The visitors however stunned the home fans when they scored in the 50th minute through Laurent Depoitre who sent Wilfredo Caballero the wrong way.

Chelsea got their equalizer in the 62nd minute via a stunning header from Marcos Alonso, but they were unable a get the winning goal as the match ended 1-1.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com earlier reported the Blues 1-0 win against Liverpool last weekend as their only hope to finish in top four lies in the outcome of the Reds game with Brighton.

Conte's side have a season ending match away to Newcastle at Saint James' Park and they will be needing nothing but a win against Rafa Benitez' team.
