Paul Pogba names Manchester United star who helped him to score brace against Manchester City

- Paul Pogba scored twice in Manchester United's 3-2 win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, April 7

- His two goals came in the space of 90 seconds to rebuild the Red Devils' confidence in the encounter

- He however says Michael Carrick was instrumental to the goals as he taught him how to score in their recent trainings

Manchester United record signing Paul Pogba says Michael Carrick is responsible for his goal scoring form in the 3-2 win over Manchester City on Saturday, April 7, at the Etihad Stadium.

The Frenchman scored two goals within 90 seconds to earn the Red Devils a lifeline in the derby before Chris Smalling sealed the victory for the visitors with a 69th minute volley as they stalled City’s title celebration.

However, the former Juventus midfielder, who rejoined United in the summer of 2016 in a five year deal valued at €105 million claims Carrick has invested a lot of time in him in recent times.

He further explained that the 36-year-old showed him videos of how to position himself on the pitch, especially when they are the attacking team.

"Michael Carrick has helped me a lot with these late runs. He always shows me videos of what I should be doing," he said after the 3-2 win.

Pogba also stated that he learnt about City’s weakness and used it against them, especially when they thought they had carried the day.

He said the runaway Premier League leaders are mostly concerned about attacking, but lag behind when it comes to defending, adding that with Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera in the middle of United’s squad, he could push forward for goals.

“With City they love to attack, they don't like to defend, so I had to get more in the box, I knew I had Nemanja Matic behind me and Ander Herrera with me.

"For the goal I didn't think about anything, with Alexis Sanchez he likes to play direct. "I saw the space and just went, I was lucky Kompany wasn't tight enough.

"I was relieved, because at 2-0 after you score your confidence goes up."

Having rejoined Manchester United in 2016, Paul Pogba 10 Premier League goals in 51 appearances for the Old Trafford outfit, and since he has got his confidence and relationship with Jose Mourinho back, he could score more before the season ends next month.

Meanwhile, Carrick just 17 goals in 315 appearances for the same club during his 12-year reign at the club, and he is expected to retire from active football this summer.

He joined the club under former manager, Sir Alex Ferguson and has gone ahead to win 5 Premier League titles, 1 Champions League and Europa League trophies among several other titles at the club.
