Just in: FG orders probe of Senate invasion by hoodlums

The federal government has ordered the probe of the invasion of the Senate by thugs.

The thugs had reportedly stormed the red chamber on Wednesday, April 18, and carted away the mace which is the symbol of the authority of the Senate.

The Cable reports that Lai Mohammed who is the minister of information said the invasion of the Senate came to the federal government as a shock.

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege representing Delta Central was accused of carrying out the operation.

NAIJ.com had reported that protesters stormed the Senate chamber on Wednesday, April 18, and stole the mace. The protesters are supporters of a suspended senator, Ovie Omo-Agege.

They left the National Assembly with the mace in a black SUV. The mace is the symbol of authority of the parliament.

A security personnel at the entrance of the National Assembly, said he was told by the protesters they were officers with the senator.

Omo-Agege was arrested by Abuja police at the Senate premises after he led a team of thugs to invade the Nigerian Senate. He was whisked away in a black hilux van at about 1:54pm.

Meanwhile, the names of five persons who reportedly entered the Senate to steal the mace which is the symbol of authority of the Red Chamber have emerged. The names emerged on Wednesday, April 18, hours after they were arrested by the FCT Police Command.
