Following IGP Idris' directive, police recover 457 illegal arms from unauthorised persons in Kogi

- The police in Kogi state have recovered over 457 prohibited arms from unauthorised persons

- The arms were recovered from them across the 21 local government areas of the state

- The police said the arms were recovered from suspected militias, bandits, vigilance groups and others

The police in Kogi state on Thursday, April 19 said it had recovered over 457 prohibited arms from unauthorised persons across the 21 local government areas of the state.

The commissioner of police in the state, Ali Janga, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the arrest of an alleged gun runner and the recovery of fire arms in Lokoja, the state capital, NAN reports.

NAIJ.com notes that Janga said that the recovery was in compliance with the directive of the inspector general of police, Ibrahim Idris, on the recovery of prohibited firearms, ammunitions and weapons across the country.

He said that the arms were recovered from suspected militias, bandits, vigilance groups, neighbourhood watch and other groups and individuals.

Janga said the arms include: 21 AK 47 rifles, 14 Pump-action gun; eight Double Barrels; 69 Single barrel, 166 Dane guns, 134 locally made pistols, 40 pistols; one G3 and four Barretta pistols.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the police command in Jigawa state recovered 119 assorted firearms, 65 rounds of ammunition and six life cartridges in the ongoing nationwide recovery of prohibited and illegal firearms by the police.

The commissioner of police in the state, Bala Senchi, disclosed this at a press conference in Dutse, the state capital on Tuesday, April 3.

Sanci said the exercise was conducted in compliance with the directive of Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to police commands to mop up, seize and recover illegal firearms in the country.
