Attack on Senate: Senator Yayi reportedly escapes kidnap, receiving treatment

Senator Adeola Yayi reportedly escaped a kidnapping attempt during an attack on the Senate by suspected hoodlums.

NAIJ.com had reported that the Senate had come under attack on Wednesday, April 18, when the mace which is the symbol of authority was taken away by some hoodlums.

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege representing Delta central has been accused of bringing in the thugs to cause mayhem due to his suspension.

In a statement by Kayode Odunaro who is the media aide to Senator Yayi, it was reported that some hoodlums attempted to kidnap the Lagos senator but he forced his way out of the moving vehicle. The senator is reportedly receiving treatment.

Around the same time Omo-Agege led thugs into the chambers today, Senator Adeola Yayi was kidnapped right in front of the White House wing of the National Assembly. As Omo Agege highlighted from one of 3 SUVs, Senator Yayi was pushed into one of the SUVs and attempt was made to drive him out of National Assembly.

The senator escaped by forcing the car door open and jumping out of the moving vehicle. He sustained injuries and is now receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Senate reacted to the invasion of its chamber by supporters of a suspended senator, Ovie Omo-Agege.

Earlier on Wednesday, April 18, supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senator from Delta state, stormed the red chambers and stole the mace (the symbol of authority in the parliament).

In a statement sent to NAIJ.com, the Senate spokesperson, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi (Niger, APC), described the action as an act of treason and called for police action.
