Alleged N18.08bn fraud: EFCC to investigate Kwankwaso, Wamakko

- Former governors, Kwankwaso and Wamakko are reportedly under EFCC investigation

- The two APC senators were accused of diverting public finds for personal use

- The EFCC spokesperson confirmed the report and that they may be invited for questioning soon

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly started investigation against former governors, Magatakarda Wamakko and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of Sokoto and Kano state respectively.

According to Leadership, Wamakko is being investigated for allegedly diverting N15 billion Sokoto State funds while Kwankwaso is under the anti-graft agency’s radar for alleged embezzlement of N3.08 billion belonging to the 44 council areas of Kano State.

The investigation is coming against the current senators who are high-ranking members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

A group, Movement for the Liberation and Emancipation of Sokoto State, had written a petition to the EFCC.

The group accused the former governor of converting funds meant for the states into personal use.

According to an EFCC source, the agency traced N1.5 billion cash deposit into Senator Wamakko’s account.

“The deposits were done by three individuals suspected to be officials of Sokoto State Government House who are yet to be traced by the Commission.”

The former governor is expected to be invited for questioning anytime from now according to the source

Barr Mustapha Danjuma on behalf of Abubakar Ali Maishani and Alhaji Najume Garba Kabo wrote a petition to the EFCC accusing Kwankwaso of embezzling fund meant for 44 local government of the state.

According to a source, “the commission discovered vouchers that indicated that each of the 44 local government areas contributed N70 million for Kwankwaso’s presidential aspiration.”

Wilson Uwujaren who is the spokesperson of the EFCC confirmed the investigation.

He said: “I am aware that both Senators Wamakko and Kwankwaso are being investigated following petitions accusing them of financial sleaze.”

Meanwhile, the EFCC Lagos zonal office, arrested 13 suspected Internet fraudsters for conspiracy, possession of fraudulent documents and obtaining money under false pretence.

The suspects are- Badejo Tobi; Abiola Dimeji; Anthony Godwin; Osoba Adeboye; Adeleken Abiodun and Awokoya Oriyomi Yusuf.

Others are: Oyatayo Ismail; Coffie Meschark; Sylvester Amaddin; Olawale Farouk; Adeniran Tolani; Taiwo Michael and Oyekanmi Ayodeji.
