Man faces jail term for diverting $56, 000 from Bishop Oyedepo's book store to personal account

- Chimezie Chuta, a former employee of Bishop David Oyedepo has been arraigned before Justice Mojisola Dada of Lagos state high court sitting in Ikeja area of the state

- Chuta was said to have proposed to the church to build an online digital media store that would showcase all of Bishop Oyedepo’s books and audio messages online

- He allegedly hacked into the company's mail and diverted payments for some goods bought by online customers to his personal account

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Lagos zonal office, on Wednesday, February 28, arraigned one Chimezie Chuta before Justice Mojisola Dada of the state high court.

Sahara Reporter reports that Chuta who a former employee in the publishing unit of Dominion Book Stores, an online bookstore belonging to the Living Faith Church Worldwide, was arraigned on one-count charge bordering on stealing to the tune of $56,000.00.

It was learnt that the offense is contrary to Section 285(7) of the criminal code law of the state no. 11 of 2011.

He allegedly hacked into the company's mail and diverted payments for some goods bought by online customers to his personal account.

He was said to have proposed to the church to build an online digital media store that would showcase all of Bishop David Oyedepo’s books and audio messages online to enable members of the church in the Diaspora to buy them and also receive digital copies.

An investigation revealed that the project was approved by the church absolutely free of charge on a contract basis.

The one-count charge reads: ''That you, Chimezie Chuta, sometime between the months of August 2013 and August 2016, at Lagos within the Ikeja Judicial Division, whilst being a staff of Dominion Book Stores stole the sum of $56,000 (Fifty-six Thousand United States Dollars), property of Dominion Bookstores, a publishing unit of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, through the Dominion Bookstores online platform dominionlinestore.org.''

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty, when the charge was read to the defendant

The defense counsel, R.E. Osige, urged the court to admit his client to bail.

Justice Dada adjourned the case to March 7, 2018, for hearing of bail the application and commencement of the trial.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that Bishop Oyedepo in his New Year message entitled, “Heralding the New Dawn of the Church” said there shall be waves of strange handing over across the nations of the earth.

The popular Bishop called on Nigerian Christians to be serious with God as multitudes will run to the church for solutions in 2018.
