- The commission urged all member states to continue condemning the abuse of Africans in Libya

Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has said it would not trivialise the issue of maltreatment of its citizens in northern Africa.
NAN reports that the president of the commission, Marcel Alain de Souza made the statement in Abuja while presenting the Status Report on the State of the Community to the Second Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS parliament.

NAIJ.com gathered that De Souza was represented by the commission’s vice president, Edward Singhatey.
De Souza said: “Through engagement we will be able to put our interests forward to ensure that these states know that we do not take likely the maltreatment of any of our community citizens and what is happening across North Africa right now is unacceptable.”

He urged member states to continue condemning the maltreatment going on Libya.
The commission’s president said the bloc is assessing the situation and has sought assistance from the international community to repatriate and reintegrate citizens.
He said: “We do not have enough funds to go to Libya and bring them, so we have written to the International Organisation for Migration for immediate and urgent assistance.”
