Buhari to Nigerians: I'll need your vote in the future - Newspaper review

The headlines of mainstream Nigerian newspapers for Thursday, November 30, are focused on President Muhammadu Buhari's 2019 second term ambition and the ongoing slave trade in Libya.

The Punch reports that the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, on Wednesday announced the suspension of the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Mounir Gwarzo, over allegations of financial impropriety levelled against him.

Also suspended were two management staff members of the commission.

They are the Head of the Media Division, Mr. Abdulsalam Naif; and the Head of Legal Department, Mrs. Anastasia Braimoh. They were also alleged to have engaged in financial impropriety.

Vanguard reports that President Muhammadu Buhari has said the federal government was hoping to evacuate identified stranded

Nigerians in Libya back to Nigeria and rehabilitate them. This came on the heels of reports that hundreds of African refugees and migrants passing through Libya were being bought and sold into slavery.

This Day reports that Buhari dropped a major hint in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, on his presidential run for a second term in the 2019 elections when he told the Nigerian community in Abidjan that he insisted on the presence of two governors who had accompanied him on his trip to the country at the meeting because it might give him votes in the future.

The two governors, Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state and Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi, had left Nigeria with the president for Abidjan on Tuesday to participate in the 5th European Union-African Union (EU-AU) Summit.

The Guardian Newspaper reports that Nigerians stranded in Libya and other parts of the world would be brought home and rehabilitated, according to President Buhari.

He spoke against the backdrop of recent reports that hundreds of African ‎refugees and migrants in Libya were being sold into slavery.

The Nation reports that President Buhari has hinted that he may run again.

Buhari dropped the hint jokingly while interacting with the Nigerian community in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, even though he did not say if he would run in 2019 when the next presidential election is due.
