- According to Ubosa, they were given the substance to drink by the driver of the vehicle, when they informed him that they were hungry
- They also drank water from a shallow well that they later discovered had decomposing bodies
A Nigerian returnee from Libya, Patience Ubosa, has disclosed how she and her co-travelers drank fuel in the desert as they attempted to find 'greener pastures' in Europe, Daily Trust reports.
The 21-year-old female was among the 161 stranded Nigerians who were repartriated back home with the help of the European Union and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

NAIJ.com gathers that out of the returnees, there were 71 male adults, 5 male children and 5 male infants; also, there were 78 female adults and 2 female infants.
They were received by Suleiman Yakubu, the zonal coordinator, Southwest region, NEMA.
Narrating her horrific story, Ubosa, who grew up in Benin-City, Edo state, disclosed that they were given the fuel to drink by the driver of the vehicle, when they got hungry.
She further revealed how the travelers rushed to drink water from a shallow well that they found, only to discover that there were decomposing bodies in it.
Ubosa stated that although she and her group eventually got to Libya, they weren’t able to cross the Mediterranean Sea into Europe.
The returnees would be assisted to get back on their track with their lives, by the federal government and the state governments.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that about 172 Nigerian migrants in Libya on their way to Europe were repatriated back to the country.
According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the migrants including six women were on their way to Europe when they were apprehended by the Libyan government.
The IOM however said the arrested migrants were lucky that they were put in detention centres as many other migrants have lost their lives at the Mediterranean.
