The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers state lost no fewer than 8,500 members to the All Progressives Congress (APC) at a rally organised in Port Harcourt.

The rally was organized by former pro-PDP group called I see You, Vanguard reports.

According to the organiser, Mr. Chizi Nyeomasila, the rally was a forum for local government executives of the group to defect.

He added that rallies will be organized at various local government areas for others willing to join APC to decamp.

Nyeomasila stated that a total of 108,000 of its members would have formally dumped the PDP for APC at the end of the programme.

Giving reason for the defection, he said: “PDP is a failure in the state. We were there but have now seen that APC will serve the common good of the state better. Like Paul in the Bible, we now see clearly.

Some APC leaders at the rally were senator-elect, Rivers East senatorial district, Senator Andrew Uchendu; Dr. Seconte Davies, executive director Marine Operations, Nigerian Ports Authority, and Rivers state chairman of APC, Dr. Davies Ikanya.

Speaking at the rally, Dr. Davies, said the move was a great boost to the APC which is ready to dislodge the PDP at all levels.

In an earlier report by NAIJ.com, no fewer than 2,000 eminent political figures and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP), decamped to the APC in Olamaboro local government of Kogi state.

The defection of the political bigwigs was said to have tilted political calculations in favour of the APC in Kogi state ahead of the 2019 elections.
