- The Igbo Delegates Assembly (IDA), has urged the Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government to dialogue with the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu
- The group urged the government to shelve its plans to abandon the IPOB leader, while also calling on the governmtnt to negotiate with other agitating groups
- IDA further lauded prominent northerners who prevailed on the Arewa youths to rescind their earlier October 1 quit notice to Igbos residing in the north
The federal government has been urged by the Igbo Delegates Assembly (IDA), to dialogue with the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
According to reports, the IDA, which is an umbrella organization consisting of Igbos in the 19 northern states and Abuja, asked the Buhari administration to abandon its plans of re-arresting Kanu, while also urging the government to dialogue with other agitating groups in the country.

NAIJ.com notes that the group made its position known in a communique signed by its president general Chi Nwogu, and its secretary Austine Ifedinezi, at the end of the meeting.
According to IDA, the recent agitations for Biafra only arose as a result of various socio-economic imbalances in the country.
They stated that the agitation would cease once these issues are addressed.
They urged the Buhari administration to “put Nigeria on a path of peaceful co-existence, through equitable distribution of patronage and infrastructural development.”
The group also lauded prominent northerners who prevailed on the Arewa youths to rescind their earlier October 1 quit notice to Igbos residing in the north.
They also commended the northern youths for backing down.
Finally, they stated: “It is on this note that we appeal to security agencies to be on guard throughout the period to prevent any breakdown of law and order in any part of Nigeria, especially in the north.”

Recall that NAIJ.com previously reported that the federal government demanded that IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, be returned to prison.
The government urged the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja to revoke the bail it granted Kanu. The government argued that the IPOB leader had not only breached the conditions attached to his bail, but had conducted himself in a manner that threatens public peace.
